Guru’s Review on Aquila When I first heard of the Aquila private reserve, I assumed it would be like all the other reserves surrounding Cape town, Glorified zoo’s processing tourists and small animal enclosures! So understand when I say that I was slightly skeptical for my first visit. I was awe struck by the beautiful landscape on the 2 hour drive to Aquila. It was in winter so the mountains outside of Worcester where sprinkled with snow and the vineyards below just made for breathtaking Kodak moments! On arrival at Aquila we were welcomed by their professional staff, a warm hearty smiles and a mug of freshly brewed coffee. After filling out the necessary, we were shown to the dining room, with its thatched roof and wooden beams, overlooking the reserve which was coming to life in the early morning sunrise. Delicious!!! The only way to describe the breakfast buffet that was laid out for us. After a very filling breakfast we climbed aboard the viewing vehicles and made our way across the reserve. Up close and personal is the only way to describe the many animals we saw…I knew to expect the Big 5... but to have an elephant bull 20 meters from me with a Giraffe loping across the grasslands next to us, is everything that Africa is about! NO small enclosures, NO cages and definitely NOT a zoo!!! After the delicious buffet lunch….we drove back to Cape Town, content, amazed and inspired by the "corner of Africa" we had just visited, only 2 hours from Cape Town! Guru’s Comment: For the tourist that only has a day…this is a definite must!! Awesome value and a must when visiting Cape Town… The Guru has spoken!!
